The Fusion Philosophy

A UNIQUE APPROACH

Jupiter Systems is unique in the Command and Control Visualization market.  We have consciously rejected the idea that "one size fits all" and have created a robust product line that offers a continuum of performance, functionality, redundancy and price... providing our customers with choices to precisely meet their needs, and exceeds their expectations.  From the entry-level Fusion 940 to the top-of-the-line and best-of-breed Fusion 980, Jupiter can provide a display wall processing solution for any requirement or budget.

Jupiter also recognizes the value of consistency and compatibility.  Although each of the products in the Fusion line offer unique features and benefits, they also all share a common set of capabilities and especially important, share the same software foundation - ControlPointTM.

STANDARD CPU ARCHITECTURE AND OPERATING SYSTEM

At the heart of every Fusion Display Wall Processor is a standard CPU architecture: motherboard, CPU, hard drives, memory and operating system are comprised off the shelf components.  Jupiter combines this standard hardware architecture with either the Microsoft Windows XP or Red Hat Linux operating system. Jupiter processors can be considered, from an IT perspective, to be a standard PC. This means that a Jupiter processor can be made a part of an IT departments network infrastructure and security policies, they can run virtually any application directly on the processor, and are operated using the familiar interaction of the underlying windowing system - either Microsoft Windows or the X Window System.  Jupiter is careful in choosing which components it uses in its processors, only those that offer exceptional performance and have long-term availability qualify.

FLEXIBLE VIDEO DISPLAY

Any Jupiter Fusion display wall processor provides ample video connectivity as a standard feature. All graphics outputs have access to connected video sources through Jupiter’s exclusive analog video bus that is connected to all outputs and runs in parallel to PC communications. Real time video windows can be moved, scaled and placed freely on the display wall, and with standard Jupiter MultiVideo™ software, multiple video windows can be displayed on any output channel.  Video windows act like any other window on the wall and can be freely moved, resized, minimized or maximized to cover the entire display wall.  Fusion graphics cards utilize state-of-the-art video processing resulting in superb video quality at full 30fps rates.

Expanding any Fusion display wall processor to include as many as 160 directly connected video sources (depending on model) is possible using Jupiter's Octal Video Card.

HIGH PERFORMANCE RGB INPUTS

As many as 48 analog RGB inputs can be optionally added to a Fusion display wall processor, with the availability of quad (on the Fusion 980), dual or single RGB input boards. Sources such as laptops, workstations, stand-alone computers and legacy systems with resolutions up to 1600x1200 pixels can be connected directly to a Fusion processor, displaying the source’s output in a freely movable, scalable window on the display wall.

STREAMING VIDEO

Displaying digitally encoded, network transported video streams is possible on all Fusion display wall processors using Jupiter's Streaming Video Server.  Hardware-based decoders can process MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 formatted streams for a wide variety of encoder manufacturers.  Using the powerful video processing capability already in a Fusion display wall processor, as many as 160 streaming video windows can be supported in a single system.

SYSTEM AVAILABILITY

Jupiter Fusion display wall processors are designed for continuous "24/7"operation in the control room environment.  Jupiter Fusion processors feature hot-swappable and redundant components throughout, and depending on model can include hot-swappable redundant power supplies, hot-swappable input and output cards (Fusion 980), hot swappable fans, and hot-swappable disk drives. Jupiter is the only manufacturer truly committed to high availability solutions for the display wall market—no other company provides products with the redundancy, availability and low MTTR (mean time to repair).

In all Jupiter Fusion processors, hardware and software continuously monitor system parameters such as ambient chassis temperature, CPU temperatures, power supply voltages,  and chassis fan tachometers, and automatically alert users to conditions that require direct intervention.  System events are logged both in ControlPoint software and in the standard Windows event log.

COMPREHENSIVE SOFTWARE SUITE

Included with every Fusion display wall processor is a complete software suite, ControlPointTM, pre-installed and free of restrictive licensing, that seamlessly and intuitively provides complete control of a display wall and all its connected visual sources. Jupiter Systems designs all its own software and hardware as an integrated whole, creating a tightly woven architecture that provides the best functionality and achieves the highest possible performance from its systems.

Jupiter’s third generation Galileo VirtualScreen™ drivers are seamlessly integrated into the Windows XP environment, providing intuitive setup of display wall configurations and allowing Windows applications to freely move and scale across the entire display wall. Included PC X server software provides compatibility with X Window client applications from workstations such as those from HP, IBM, Sun, as well as PCs running Linux.

Included with every Jupiter Fusion processor is RemoteCursor™ software which allows a client Windows workstation to take control of the display wall over a network, having direct access to the entire display wall as if sitting at the keyboard and mouse directly attached to the controller. Multiple users can run RemoteCursor simultaneously, although only one can have access to the display wall at a given time.

CONTROLPOINT™ GUI, PROTOCOL AND API

ControlPoint is the complete, integrated, and intuitive software solution for the control and management of a Jupiter Fusion display wall processor.

ControlPoint is a client/server based system: the server resides on the Fusion processor directly accessing hardware functionality, whereas the client is installed on a network accessible PC running Windows. ControlPoint client and server communicate over a TCP/IP connection with the ControlPoint protocol, an open-text, socket-based, communications protocol. The ControlPoint protocol and supporting API can be used for custom applications and control. An RS-232 gateway is provided for serial communication devices. Simple applications using JavaScript and HTML can be generated in minutes, whereas the complete power of a Jupiter Fusion processor is available to those who truly want a customized interface and complete control.
